OpenFEMA’s Public Assistance Applicants v1 dataset includes applicant names and mailing addresses. Those fields are public records. RebuildAlert joins each obligated Project Worksheet to the applicant on applicantId and disasterNumber, then shows and emails the street line when the dataset has one.
That join matters. Applicant IDs are not unique across disasters. Matching on ID alone will attach the wrong city hall to the wrong event.
Why the street line is in the product
Contractors do not lose deals because they cannot find a SAM.gov opportunity number. They lose time because they cannot tell who will buy the work after FEMA obligates. The applicant — not FEMA — procures most Public Assistance construction. A mailing address is the public way to reach that buyer.
RebuildAlert therefore keeps applicant streets in:
- The public teaser table and authenticated alert list
- Daily watch emails
- CSV export for paid accounts
We do not sell OpenFEMA names and addresses as a standalone list. Privacy and terms say that plainly.
What the address is not
It is not a guarantee that purchasing sits at that street. Some applicants use a P.O. box. Some list a county courthouse while public works sits in a yard across town. Some tribes and PNPs list a headquarters that is not the project site.
It is also not permission to spam. Send a specific letter about a named disaster and facility. Do not blast every applicant in a state because you bought a subscription.
How to write the first note
Name the disaster declaration, the category, and the facility language from the worksheet. Say you saw the obligation in OpenFEMA (or via RebuildAlert, which is built on OpenFEMA). Ask how they intend to procure. Offer availability. Skip FEMA logos and any claim of federal endorsement — we are not affiliated with FEMA or DHS.
If you want a feel for the dollars before you write, split the obligated amount with the federal share calculator. Typical cost share is 75 percent federal, but some declarations use 90 or 100. The remainder is still the applicant’s problem, and it is often where local procurement starts.
